HELP OUR HORSES

On the island of Vieques, beauty runs wild — and so do the horses.
These free-roaming Paso Fino descendants are part of our island’s story, woven into its heart and heritage. But behind the postcard views, many are hungry, injured, or in need of urgent care.

That’s where Hooves on the Ground / Pezuñas en el Suelo steps in.
From roadside rescues to feeding malnourished herds, our volunteers show up every day with medicine, hay, water, and compassion — giving these horses the care and dignity they deserve.

We also host monthly free clinics across the island, providing tetanus vaccines, dewormer, and castrations to keep the herds healthy and alive.

Tetanus is a deadly disease that strikes fast — protecting even one horse means protecting the whole herd. Our castration program helps control the population humanely, reducing injuries, hunger, and suffering in the wild.

Your support keeps this mission alive — and every donation directly funds food, medicine, and life-saving care.

🚨 If you see a horse in need:

We kindly ask you to text instead of call, as our volunteers speak different languages and this helps us respond faster.
