Announcing the New Hooves on the Ground

Rescue and Rehab Center!

 

August 2023 — Exciting news! A very generous patron has donated land for us to use to care for horses that need longer term medical care and rehabilitation space than we can provide in the field. With the help of our generous donors we are turning this property into an oasis for humane horse care.

 

Soon this valuable ground will be used for...

• Feeding and watering malnourished horses

• Rehabilitation of injured and ill horses

• Short-term pasturing for horses that need it

• Medical attention for horses requiring procedures over the course of extended stays

Accomplishments to date include:

• Brush clearing

• Fencing into six corrals

• Installation of gates

• Property signage

 

Projects on deck include:

• Install water cisterns

• Plumbing to tap into city water system

• Set up water and feeding stations

• Construction of stalls and shaded shelters

​

Ongoing needs include:​

• Steady supply of grain, alfalfa, hay and water

• Hoses, rakes, wheelbarrows and feed buckets

• Halters, leads and ropes

• Farrier Services

• Veterinarian needs and medical supplies

• Grooming supplies — including brushes, shampoo, etc.

• Topical supplies — fly spray & masks, bandages/wraps, tick repellant, wound care, etc.

 

We could not have accomplished this without the ongoing support of our donors. Help us get the word out to gain the support of more patrons who appreciate the loving care we provide for the beautiful, free-roaming horses of Vieques.
